Publish a Bestselling Book to Attract Clients

People Problems? was my first book for Project Bestseller. The author came to me with a manuscript in progress. I made developmental editing suggestions, and he came back with a revised version. Then I did heavy editing, polished it up, designed the cover, and formatted it for Kindle and paperback.

We also decided to release an audiobook edition. The author narrated the book, and we got the recordings edited and produced. I modified the cover to work for an audiobook, and we submitted it for distribution through Audible, Amazon, and other sites.

For the marketing, we took a multi-layered approach. We wanted to sell as many books as possible and hit the bestseller lists, and we also wanted to get people into the author’s community so that he can build relationships and win clients for his coaching and other offerings. We added enticing freebie offers throughout the book and set up a followup sequence for those who join his email list.

For the initial launch, we hit:
#2 in Communication in Management
#3 in Human Resources & Personnel (Management)
#3 in Strategic Management
#3 in Organizational Change
#4 in Organizational Learning
#6 in Mentoring & Coaching
#7 in Human Resources & Personnel (Industry)
#11 in Teams

Most people stop once they hit bestseller status. They simply don’t know where to go from there. Instead, we shifted into long-term sales mode to get this author ongoing sales, so that his book can keep bringing him royalties and leads over time, not just during launch week.
